Sunlight On Your Nose

Monday, September 14th, 2009

A friend shared a story with me the other day about her 93 year old neighbor.  She told me how this woman, although elderly by anyone’s standards, was still very young at heart.  She described the twinkle in her eye, and the way she kept up on all the latest music and trends.  She also told me how well the woman looked after her husband when he became ill.

She explained that this man’s wish was to spend his last days at home.  Arrangements were made to have a hospital bed placed in the living room, and this woman helped the nurses to care for her husband in the comfort of their own home.  One day, the woman walked to the window and spread the curtains open wide to allow some sunlight into the dark room.  When she turned around to smile at her husband, the light glanced across her nose.  She turned to her husband, smiling, and said, “Look.  The sun is kissing my nose.”

The sweetness of that moment stayed with me this week.  The image of this elderly woman, surrounded by the smells of sickness and the fear of losing the one she loves, taking the moment to appreciate sunlight dancing on her nose, was simple, yet profound.

I am sure I am not alone when I say that I enjoy hearing stories about elderly people who are young at heart.  Perhaps it is because there is a universal sense that we are younger inside than we may look or feel on the outside.  I have often said that I feel like I am in my 20’s even though I am two decades past that mark in calendar years.   Perhaps the fact that people retain their youth despite their age offers some kind of hope that we can be the same.

As you go through this week, you might feel aches and pains, or even tired and drained.  However, even as your body absorbs the stresses of its age, at some point during the week, I hope you take a moment to recognize the sun as it kisses your nose.

Water Crystals

Monday, September 14th, 2009

I first heard about the study of water crystals when I saw the movie, “What the Bleep Do We Know?”  In the movie they shared the results of a study by Dr. Masaru Emoto, a Japanese doctor, researcher and author, who had performed some interesting experiments with water.  The pictures they displayed were truly amazing, and they piqued my interest.  I thought you might be fascinated as well.

Realizing that the face of each snowflake is different, Dr. Emoto concluded that the same must be true of water crystals.  He began his research with a quest to photograph the unique crystal formations of water.

In his study, he realized that water crystals which had been polluted looked completely different than water crystals from a natural source.  The vibrational effects of the contamination served to completely distort the formation of the crystal.  So, Dr. Emoto embarked on a study of how other vibrational frequencies emitted from music, words, pictures and visual images might impact the water.

Many of you might be skeptical, as are many in the scientific community.  Other researchers are currently working on replicating the studies.  But, even if you are unsure, I hope you will consider it for just a moment.  We all know that we feel and react differently toward someone who is using kind words and thoughts compared to someone who is speaking negatively.  We also know that the way we speak to others, whether positively or negatively, will reproduce a similar feeling in them.  The possibility that it resonates to a sub-molecular level within us is incredible!

Dr. Emoto is continuing to work in this arena.  He has established several institutes worldwide to continue his research.  He has written several books and articles on the subject (see the list provided).   Since water covers the largest portion of our planet and comprises the largest percentage of our physical bodies, our thoughts and feelings can play a large part in the way our environments get created, both globally and personally.  Dr. Emoto states, “What you really know is possible in your heart is possible.  We make it possible by our will.  What we imagine in our minds becomes our world.  That’s just one of the many things I have learned from water.”

 Just some food for thought.

 Have a great week!
